Cat’s Cradle Textiles is a producer of handwoven textiles, designed and woven in Portland, Oregon by Ali Crockett Moore. Cat’s Cradle designs are influenced by a love of math and code, fueled by the desire to bring art to your daily existence, and produced in the scattered pockets of time left by raising little ones.
In my life before parenthood I was an engineer, and it shows in the way I approach the process of producing handwoven cloth – through experimentation and observation I discover constraints; when I am comfortable enough with my understanding of these constraints, my art is in adjusting parameters to define the forms I find most beautiful. Now the weaving takes shape as an abstract object, a set of numbers, or lines of code, and then finally I begin the meditation of executing the design as physical cloth. I love the entire process from start to end, and this is manifest in the final product.
