Land of Enchantment – named for the state motto of New Mexico – is inspired by my family’s roots in the American Southwest, calling up memories of childhood trips to our family cabin, driving through brushlands and swarms of cyclones with an eye to the infinite horizon, trips to Santa Fe with its rich artist community. Land of Enchantment invokes the colors of the land itself, vibrant plains and foothills and mesas, and the way they soak up and radiate the spirit of the sun. Sometimes a work of art seems to manifest itself of its own inertia, and I, as the artist, am simply trying to keep up and pull it down out of the ether, staying as true form as possible – Land of Enchantment is one of these works.
